Message of Greeting by the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Angela Merkel
On 28th September it’s time again: tens of thousands of runners will come to the start of the BERLIN-MARATHON. I am sure: Germany’s biggest running event will once more become an unforgettable celebration. For that occasion I am sending my warmest wishes to all of you.
The BERLIN-MARATHON will be held for the 35th time. Again almost 60,000 participants have entered the race. About one million spectators are expected in the capital of Germany.
One reason for the continuous success of this event is certainly the attractive and knowingly fast course along Berlin’s historic sights. Another reason is the perfect integration of other disciplines such as Inline Skating or Power Walking by the organisers. Since 1981 a considerable number of wheelchair athletes take part in this 42 k race as well.
I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the success and to the unique atmosphere of this important marathon. Among others I would like to thank the volunteers, the police and the medical services.
I wish the organisers of SCC-RUNNING success and good speed for the preparation and realisation of this major sporting event. I hope for all participants that they are successful and I wish the numerous spectators an exciting and entertaining time in Berlin.
Angela Merkel
